True Colors is a psychometric tool that helps participants identify various personality styles and label them with 4 colors: Blue, Orange, Green and Gold. It was created by Don Lowry and draws heavily on the work of Carl Jung, Myers-Briggs, and David Keirsey. It helps translate complicated personality and learning theory into practical information we can all understand and use. Lowry’s objective was the application of temperament or personality styles to facilitate deeper communications and understanding. He hoped it would result in positive self-worth and self-esteem. The belief is that with increased understanding of ourselves and others, conflict will decrease.
The tool is therefore an easy and entertaining way to enhance personal and professional development skills in turn driving organizational excellence through higher engagement, improved communication, and teamwork via an understanding of self, others and how they can work together. In other words, once you learn your color and that of your co-workers, you will have a better understanding of why they behave the way they do!
